In January of this year, a historic day was experienced in the gaming world, Microsoft announced that it would buy Activision Blizzard for $68.7 billion. While there was no official confirmation for the purchase yet, the fate of Call of Duty games was especially curious.
The industry started to think that Call of Duty games would be exclusive to Xbox and PC with the acquisition of Microsoft. While these thoughts were recently rejected by Phil Spencer, President of Microsoft Gaming, another important statement came from Spencer today.
As long as there’s PlayStation, CoD will be there too:
Speaking about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, which was published recently, Spencer reiterated that the Call of Duty series will not say goodbye to PlayStation:
“It’s not our intention to do that (remove CoD from PlayStation) as long as there’s a PlayStation we can stream. Our goal is to continue streaming Call of Duty on PlayStation, similar to what we’ve been doing with Minecraft since we’ve owned Minecraft. We’ve expanded the places where people can play Minecraft, and I think it’s been good for the Minecraft community. I want to do the same as we think about where Call of Duty could go over the years.”
Of course, there is a good reason behind this explanation of Phil:
Phil Spencer’s decision not to remove the CoD series from PlayStation may actually be based on a very logical reason. Because Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has been the best-released CoD game on the platform to date, according to the share made by PlayStation. So the Call of Duty adventure continues for PlayStation better than ever before.
