Activision blew the pod about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III and gave a lot more information about what players can expect in the next game in the rebooted series.
First, it looks like a surprise awaits fans of Call of Duty’s Zombies mode. Activision is promising the mod’s biggest map to date. For the first time, you will be able to team up with other teams and try to survive the huge zombie hordes.
Although Sledgehammer Games is spearheading the development of Modern Warfare III, other Activision studios are also helping. Treyarch, one of the core developers of Call of Duty, took on this year’s Zombie mode, which tells the story of “Dark Aether”. Activision said the mod includes some of the biggest enemies in the series’ history, along with secrets to uncover and various missions.
Zombies isn’t the only important mod, of course, MWIII will also pay homage to one of the most important games in the series. Each of the original 16 multiplayer maps from the 2009 version of Modern Warfare 2 will be accessible. Sledgehammer has modernized classic maps like Terminal and Highrise with new modes and gameplay features.
It will also please many players to learn that the classic red dot minimap Infinity Ward took out of last year’s Modern Warfare II is back. There will be a map voting system, while Sledgehammer will give players a health boost that will increase the time it takes to kill.
Plus, you won’t have to start your multiplayer weapon collection from scratch. Last week, Activision confirmed for the first time that players will be able to move nearly all of their Modern Warfare II unlocked items (including weapons and operators) to Modern Warfare III.
Along with all the multiplayer features, there is also a small story mode. This is a direct sequel to last year’s game and continues the Modern Warfare story with Task Force 141, which tries to take down ultranationalist villain Vladmir Makarov.
This time, there is a new type of mission called Open Combat. This gives players the chance to choose their own path through the level and multiple ways to complete objectives. These chapters are designed for players’ preferred playstyles, so if you prefer stealth to gunfights, you’ll be satisfied.
When will Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III be released?
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III will release on November 10 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC (via Steam and Battle.net). There will be a free open beta process ahead of time, and those who pre-order will have early access to the game. These people will also be able to play the scenario mode up to a week before the game’s official release date.
