The specially designed jacket worn by Buzz Aldrin (Edwin Eugene Aldrin), who went down in history as the second person to set foot on the Moon after Neil Armstrong, was put up for sale at auction. The jacket, which was put up for sale by Sotheby’s, one of the world’s largest collection companies, was sold for $2.77 million. That price makes the jacket the most valuable US-made space item ever sold.
According to the statements made by Sotheby’s, the jacket, which was sold for $ 2.77 million, was designed with great care by NASA. In 1967, NASA took lessons from the astronauts who lost their lives due to the fire that broke out during the Apollo 1 mission, and used a special fire-resistant fabric for this jacket.

On the left side of the jacket, which was sold for a record price, was an icon prepared for Apollo 11. Just above it was Buzz Aldrin’s nameplate. The jacket with the USA flag on his left arm and NASA’s logo on the right chest. This jacket has been purchased by a mysterious person who participated in the auction by phone and whose identity is unknown.
This particular jacket was not the only item sold at the auction held by Sotheby’s. Most of Buzz Aldrin’s personal items have been sold, including a 9-page brochure (sold for $819,000) describing what to do during the space voyage for Apollo 11. Sotheby’s grossed a total of $8.2 million in these sales.
