As LHAASO received data when the BOAT supernova exploded, it tracked not only the beginning of the event but also its development after the event. Although there were some problems in the spatial resolution part, there was a lot of data. More than 64 thousand phatons were detected at energies above 200 giga-electron volts in the first 100 minutes.
According to the researchers, this data suggests that low-energy events are caused by jets interacting with the turbulent debris of the supernova. This debris will limit the velocity of space particles, both close to the source of the jets and complex. This means that they will also put limits on their energies.
Higher-energy photons, by contrast, are produced in areas where the jets clear supernova remnants and begin to interact with the material that makes up the environment around the star. It seems difficult to leave the debris of a supernova behind. But the process is fast, as the jet accelerates the particles to nearly the speed of light.
BOAT, on the other hand, made a sharp drop in high-energy photons in the supernova state. This is said to be due to the expansion of the jets as they move away from their source. It also appears that BOAT is the brightest supernova, as the jet’s central core is facing directly towards Earth.
