In 2022, scientists and researchers aboard the E/V Nautilus expedition encountered something we wouldn’t expect: a massive, yellow brick road stretching across the ocean floor. This road-like structure discovered on the Liliʻuokalan ridge, located in the Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument (PMNM) in the north of the Hawaiian Islands, attracted great attention.
PMNM is among the largest marine protected areas in the world, and only 3 percent of this area has been explored. The part where the road is located is 3000 meters below the sea surface. The road was also photographed during studies carried out in the region by the Ocean Exploration Trust.
Here is that video
Researchers call this interesting structure “Road to Atlantis” and “Yellow brick road” in the video. It was also stated that although it was located deep in the sea, the structure looked “as if it had dried up”. If it were not actually at the bottom of the sea, it would be hard to imagine that we were seeing the remains of a road that was once built around a lake.
Researchers also have some ideas about how this structure emerged. It is estimated that this structure emerged when volcanic rocks were exposed to numerous explosions and therefore constantly heated and cooled. The brick appearance is explained by the angle of the cracks being ninety degrees.
With this discovery, it is expected to learn more about the mysterious geological history of our planet. The brick road can provide important information in this respect.
