Artist nicknamed OONA sold a loaf of bread for just over 0.5 BTC.
Selling the edible bread made from dough to a collector named Vladimir Kravets, OONA was paid thousands of dollars for this bread. Made in partnership with Bitcoin NFT marketplace DIBA, the loaf of bread was slightly different from other breads as it contained a hardware wallet that stores an undisclosed amount of BTC. However, neither the artist nor Kravets plans to disclose the amount contained in the bread. This may be because the actual value of Bit.Bread, which gives the work its name, has nothing to do with the money itself.
OONA Focuses on Perception of Women in the Crypto Industry
“I’m basically exploring ways in which this technology is more progressive than the people who use it,” OONA told Bit.Bread.
Creating performance art works at crypto conferences since 2021, OONA’s work focuses on attitudes and perceptions towards women in crypto. Always wearing glasses and wearing a draped mask that conceals her identity, OONA auctioned off a cup of her own breast milk, which she had milked live with the help of performance artist Lori Baldwin, at Art Basel Miami last December. Milking the Artist received a high bid of $200,000. This piece and Bit.Bread reinterpret the edible symbols of the kitchen in an effort to question the value placed on women in crypto-related environments.
