Telegram, one of the most popular messaging applications in the world, is trying to improve the messaging experience of users by bringing brand new features. The platform, which is described as the biggest competitor of WhatsApp, released a big update last month and brought many innovations to us.

Telegram, which also has a paid subscription system, announced that it added new features to the application in a statement made on its own site yesterday. The update includes many innovations that will delight users, such as registering without a SIM card. Let’s take a look at the features coming to the platform one by one.

Registering without a SIM card

Telegram said in a statement that a new era of privacy has begun. Accordingly, it will be possible to have a Telegram account without a SIM card. Users will be able to log in to the application using the blockchain supported anonymous numbers on the Fragment platform.

Automatic deletion of all chats

In the giant platform that introduced self-destructing messages in 2013, it is possible to delete messages sent or received by users from both sides without leaving a trace. Telegram, which introduced auto-deletion of messages last year, now states that a general auto-delete timer can be set to delete messages from all new chats.

In the shared image, it is seen that users can set the time (1 day after, 1 week later) to delete new messages. Telegram states that “The timer will be automatically applied to all new chats you have with users and to all new groups, regardless of who started it.”

Topics 2.0

The platform, which brought the option to organize discussions by topics with its previous updates, says that now the topics have become more powerful and can be used by groups of 100 or more people. Groups with topics will open in a two-column mode, according to Telegram, so other chats can be accessed as quickly as before. It will be enough to press the new button in the preview to go directly to the latest topic from your chat list.

It is also noted that groups now have a default topic called ‘Public’ which keeps the message history before the topic. According to the explanations, this topic will be used by all group members and old messages can be found. Functions such as renaming and hiding from the main list will only be available to administrators.

It is also possible to view old messages at the same time with the ‘View as message’ option. It is also stated that there is a button in this mode that shows where each message is broadcast. Finally, it was reported by Telegram that with the update, groups now have up to 5 pinned topics.

‘Aggressive Anti-Spam’ mode for groups

Saying that it is a big target for spammers due to its popularity, Telegram stated that now the administrators of groups with more than 200 members can turn on a new mode called ‘Aggressive Anti-Spam’ for automatic spam filters.

Temporary QR codes

Telegram says users who don’t have a username and hide their phone number from everyone can create a temporary QR code. In this way, those who scan the code can instantly add you as a contact without knowing your phone number.

Telegram also brought other features such as new custom emoticons, innovations for iOS and Android

The popular messaging platform talked about a few more innovations apart from the ones we mentioned. These include things like the arrival of emoticon search on iOS, granular storage usage on Android, new emoticons exclusive to Premium users, and more interactive emoticons.
