Activists sometimes have interesting moves, and when they want to express their concerns, they can resort to unconventional methods. This is exactly the kind of event we are talking about, just like the incident of throwing a cake at the Mona Lisa in the past months.

This time it takes place in Italy. At an art gallery in Florence, a group of climate activists calling themselves ‘Ultima Generazione’ (The Last Generation) glued themselves to Botticelli’s painting ‘Primavera’. They stuck it with the glue you know.

Fortunately the table had a protective glass

Botticelli’s 650-year-old painting exhibited in the art gallery was not harmed by this action, as many works of art are not displayed in a monolithic form, unprotected, as you know. There was a protective glass in front of the painting, and the activists glued themselves to this protective glass.

This activist group called The Last Generation states in their manifesto that they will target museums and that this painting by Botticelli is the first of the protests. They were inspired by the ‘Just Stop Oil’ activist group, which is doing similar actions in the UK.

The reason why this painting of Botticelli was targeted is significant. ‘Primavera’ means spring. The activist group said in a statement, ‘Will we ever see spring in such a beautiful way again?’ says.

The banner opened by the activist team, who attached themselves to the painting, read ‘Ultima Generazione No Gas No Carbone’, which means ‘Last Generation, No to Gasoline, No to Carbon’. According to the news from the Italian press, the activists bought tickets to enter the art gallery and were arrested after the protest and taken to the police station.
