While Android 14 is expected to be released in the coming days, the manufacturer of the operating system has updated the Google Android brand and logo. Moving away from lowercase stylization, the operating system’s logo now begins with a capital “A”.
The search giant has also given its Android mascot Bugdroid a new 3D look. The sketch is part of the Android logo and represents the fun people expect from Android, according to the company.
The green Android robot is one of the features that distinguishes Android from its rival iOS. It has been 14 years since the emergence of the Android operating system, and the robot has been associated with it since the early days. The robot character was designed by Irina Blok in 2007 when she was working as a graphic designer at Google.
Blok said in an interview he gave in later years that he designed the character independently and made it open source. Although he never presented the logo to anyone at Google, the logo gained popularity among the developers at Google, and they began to produce their own versions.
Google said it has updated Bugdroid’s full-body view to “easily switch between digital and real-life environments, and be a versatile and reliable companion across channels, platforms and content.”
The company had previously changed Android’s logo and brand color in 2019. It also dropped the popular dessert naming scheme at the time and started using version numbers instead of alphabets to identify major Android updates. Google said the new branded identity and 3D Bugdroid will start appearing on Android devices and elsewhere starting this year.
