By making a big move in the industry in 2020, Apple ended its dependence on Intel completely and started using its own chips in its computers. The new chips, bearing the “M” name, started with the M1 and are now up-to-date with the M2 Max.

While it had just released the M2 Pro and M2 Max chips at the beginning of 2023 and left their mouths open, today the first news from the next year came. Bloomberg’s experienced writer Mark Gurman stated that new Macs with M3 chips are in the testing process, and he shared information about the flagship of the new family that can make one say “how much longer”.

The M3 Max will have features that will make it soar in performance:

Mark Gurman shared that next year’s flagship chip M3 Max has been tested on the 16-inch MacBook Pro. But the most notable thing was the characteristics of the chip used in the test.

According to the information shared by Gurman, the M3 Max will have 16 processor cores and 40 graphics processor cores. For comparison, today’s flagship M2 Max has 12 processors and 38 GPU cores.

Compared to the M2 Max, only 2 and 4 cores increase on paper, but the communication of these cores and therefore the performance they offer together will be able to offer much more than this number. Because with the M3 Max, Apple will now switch from 5 nanometers to 3 nanometers production process. In other words, the transistors, which are the most basic components in the chip, will be 2 nanometers closer to each other.

There will also be a critical change in the distribution of cores. Apple will offer 12 of the M3 Max’s 16 processor cores as performance cores and 4 as efficiency cores. In the M2 Max, this distribution was such that there were 4 efficiency and 8 performance cores.
