Car companies around the world continue their moves for electric vehicles. Germany-based manufacturer BMW is one of the prominent ones in this regard. New information reveals that the giant brand has very interesting plans in this regard.

A patent application, first noticed by CarBuzz and later spotted by The Verge, revealed that BMW wants to take advantage of the bumps we often see on the roads to charge its electric vehicles. According to the application, the company plans to do this with a special system.

A new suspension system is intended to be able to charge the car as the wheel moves up and down.

Made in Germany in 2021; however, according to the translation of the application that has just appeared, the company wants to power the batteries of its electric vehicles with a new suspension design. According to the document, the energy normally generated by the up and down movement of the wheel is consumed as heat energy. However, the system proposed in the patent includes a small generator to capture the energy during this process.

Accordingly, the generator is activated after the wheel of the passing vehicle moves up and can charge the electric car or the battery. It is estimated that the company will use this system in larger and luxury premium vehicles such as the i7 in the future.

BMW did not make any statements about whether this system will enter production. However, automobile companies are constantly making such different patent applications; but we must add that not all of them have materialized. In other words, it is not clear at the moment whether BMW will definitely make such a move.

Companies are trying all kinds of ways to increase the efficiency of their electric cars

Using kasiss for such purposes is not a new idea. Another automobile giant, Audi, stated in 2016 that it wanted to convert the kinetic energy from the bumps on the roads into electrical energy and announced its project called ‘eROT’. However, this system from Audi was never produced. It is also unknown whether the company is currently working on this issue. In addition, let’s add that the US-based Giga Performance is working on such a system for electric vehicles.

These moves by BMW and other brands are clear proof that electric car manufacturers are trying every possible way to improve the efficiency of their vehicles. We will see how effective such interesting systems will be in the coming years.
