It takes more than electric cars to reach zero emissions in the automotive industry. Companies that aim to stop the production of vehicles with internal combustion engines in the future are also working overtime to reduce emissions in the production process.

Companies working for this purpose are trying to make their facilities zero-emission. Drawing attention with the electric cars it has recently released, BMW announced that the Debrecen factory in Hungary will be the company’s first zero-emission production center.

BMW will produce vehicles with zero emissions!

The assembly plant in Hungary, which will be operational in 2025, will host what the brand calls Neue Klasse (new class). Neue Klasse consists of the latest model vehicles that will rise on the platform that primarily develops for electric vehicles.

The Debrecen factory, which will be operational in three years, has been tasked with producing the newest models of the brand. All these models will be implemented using only renewable energy. The facility, which will not use fossil fuels, is an important step in BMW’s plan to reduce its emissions substantially.

The German company aims to drastically reduce its CO2 emissions within ten years. With the new facilities, it is planned to reduce the emissions generated during the production process by 80 percent compared to 2019 levels. In this context, most of the energy required for production will be supplied from within the facility. In this way, BMW will be one step closer to its zero emission target.

The luxury automaker says the factory in Hungary will be the first in the industry to completely eliminate fossil energy sources in its production processes. The first vehicle to be produced in Debrecen will be developed from the ground up without any connection to past models. This model is expected to be the electric sibling of the 3 Series.
