BMW increases solid-state battery investments

Under the new agreement, the automaker has been licensed to build a prototype line for the assembly of all-solid-state batteries (ASSB) at its Cell Manufacturing Competence Center (CMCC) near Munich. Before setting up the prototype line, BMW aims to optimize cell production processes by asking Solid Power to provide the necessary training.
The Bavarian automaker announced in a press release that it plans to have a prototype vehicle with ASSB technology ready before 2025. In this process, Solid Power will supply cells for testing purposes during the year.
BMW also designs the Neue Klasse platform, which will form the basis of its cars in the coming years, in accordance with solid-state batteries. It is very difficult to predict when the German manufacturer will launch its first model with a solid state battery. It looks like BMW will wait a while longer for this.
