While mail scams continue to pose a great danger to users, today a move came from Google in this regard. The company announced that we will now see blue ticks in Gmail, similar to those on platforms like Twitter.
Google introduced the Brand Indicators for Message Identification (BIMI) feature to verify senders of emails in 2021. This step, taken to ensure the security of emails, allowed companies to add their logos to Gmail. The blue tick, which debuted for companies today, has also increased the security measures.
Blue tick will let you know if emails are from real or fake accounts
In the screenshots shared by the technology giant, it is seen that the blue tick will be located right next to the senders of the e-mail. When you hover over this part, it is stated that the sender of the e-mail has been “verified”. Google added that companies that verify by adding their logo will automatically receive a blue tick.
This move of the company will make it easier for users to understand whether incoming emails are genuine or fraudulent. Considering the rapidly increasing cases of phishing, we can say that this move can be very useful in terms of security. A few weeks ago, we saw a very realistic email scam targeting people that looked like it came from YouTube.
Starting today, Gmail has started issuing blue ticks for both work and personal Google accounts. So in the coming days, many of us will see such verified accounts in our emails.
