Social media giant Meta has decided to unplug another Facebook-independent app. According to the company’s statement, the end of the road is in sight for the Facebook Gaming application, which is offered as a competitor to Twitch. As of October 28, Gaming’s Android and iOS apps will be shut down.
End of the road for Facebook Gaming
Meta reviews Facebook, which is divided into quite different branches. The company’s latest move will affect the streaming platform Facebook Gaming. In the notification sent to users by Meta, it was announced that the Gaming application will be closed.
However, this decision means that all Gaming plans are suspended. According to the company’s statement, the Gaming feature will now be run from the Facebook app or Facebook.com. So if you’re a Gaming spectator or creator, you don’t have to worry yet.
The Gaming feature, which was first opened in 2018, received an independent mobile application in 2020. The social media giant, which met with various content creators to keep Gaming alive, still did not succeed.
According to the latest data, the number of views of the Gaming app this year remained around 1.4 billion. Although it doesn’t seem like a bad number, it is far behind competitors such as Twitch and YouTube. The number of views of these platforms is 11.8 billion and 2.3 billion, respectively.
It could also be that Meta is just reviewing their Gaming plans. It should be noted that Gaming will remain live through the Facebook application. Let us remind you that YouTube has previously closed the standalone YouTube Gaming application.
