BlackBerry, which will be remembered by almost everyone, children and young people in the mid-2000s, achieved a first in the phone world and pioneered the transition from phones with T9 keys to phones with QWERTY keyboards. Nokia and some other brands tried to rival the company but were unsuccessful. BlackBerry, which was once the only phone used by every businessman, rich and technology-savvy person in the world, was quickly wiped out from the market with the release of the iPhone.

This glorious and yet sad story of BlackBerry is now becoming a movie. Moreover, the release date of the movie has also been announced.

Here is the first trailer for “BlackBerry”

We see Jay Baruchel as Mike Lazaridis, the founder of BlacBerry, in the cast of the movie prepared by IFC Films. You may recognize him from his performances in Hiccup and The Sorcerer’s Apprentice in the How to Train Your Dragon trilogy. The director and writer of the film, Matt Johnson, plays Jim Balsillie, a close friend of Lazaridis and one of the founders of the brand. We should also point out that Glenn Howerton gave life to the character of Douglas Fregin, who made BlackBerry more than just a dream.

Towards the end of the 90s, Lazaridis and Balsillie’s paths cross by chance with investor Douglas Fregin, who are going door to door to make their keyboard phone dreams come true. After a long and turbulent adventure, BlackBerry has become the world’s largest and most “luxury” phone manufacturer, and a presentation by Steve Jobs turns the company upside down. On top of all these events, the company’s setbacks are the final nail in the coffin of the BlackBerry brand.

Inspired by the 2011 book “Losing the Signal”, which tells the story of the BlackBerry brand, the film, besides being a biography, also contains plenty of comedy. The release date of the movie is May 12, 2023.
