Pinocchio, one of Disney’s most legendary characters in history, is getting ready to come back to the screens with his special movie. While the expectations for the movie, which was first announced in 2020, continue, today Disney finally shared the promotional video of the movie. The film will host many famous actors in its cast.

Pinocchio, which will be released on Disney Plus on September 8, features famous names such as Tom Hanks, Cynthia Erivo, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Luke Evans in its cast. The film is directed by Oscar-winning director Robert Zemeckis. The trailer of the new movie is as follows:

Pinocchio movie trailer:

Pinocchio and Jiminy Cricket created with special effects Benjamin Evan Ainsworth will voice Pinocchio in the new Pinocchio movie. Pinocchio’s little friend Jiminy Cricket will be voiced by Joseph Gordon-Levitt. The detail we see in the trailer indicates that Pinocchio’s design is the first design used by Disney in 1940.

The fact that the fairy was black created controversy:

The trailer also brought up another discussion about Disney. In the original productions of Pinocchio, the character of Blue Fairy, who had blond hair and white skin, was depicted in black (played by Cynthia Erivo). The break from the character’s depiction in the story was criticized by some, while it received the support of others. Some of the reactions were as follows:

“Fata Turchina, described by Collodi, the author of Pinocchio: “Blue hair and face as white as a porcelain doll.”
Disney: Come on. Let’s make it black and bald!”

“I’m sorry to report that racists are angry again about the existence of black people.”

“Why do you care about having a black woman on the cast in a fictional magic movie about a magic wooden boy? I really don’t understand how it pisses you off having a black woman in Pinocchio.”

“The Pinocchio trailer looks good but the black fairy is weird. The forced variety just ruins things. I’m so surprised they didn’t make Pinocchio a woman. Don’t bring people in to highlight certain groups . It never works. Please don’t be a ‘woke’.”

“How many black characters were in the original Pinocchio movie? Is it that important for a fairy to be white? Does skin color affect her character? Why can’t she be black?”

“I’m sorry but now all the characters have to be black? It’s okay with the actor playing Blue Fairy, but his forced inclusion destroys the classics.”

“It’s sickening that people can’t handle black main characters on screen without turning into scared substitution theorists. Damn Pinocchio trailer has been on the air for only 2 hours and haters are already starting to comment on the fairy godmother.”
