The Bitcoin Mining Council (BMC) has released a report on the energy consumed by Bitcoin (BTC).

Mining, which represents an important place within the crypto industry, is in trouble with global energy problems and equipment shortages. As in many industries, crypto miners are trying to come up with new solutions under increasing pressure. One of the most popular issues on the agenda is the energy spent in Bitcoin mining. The report prepared by BMC reveals the answers to the curious questions about mining.

Negligible Amount of Energy Wasted in Bitcoin Mining

The Bitcoin Mining Council (BMC) has released its Global Bitcoin Mining Data Review, which includes the 3rd quarter of 2022.

In the report published by BMC, it is stated that global BTC mining consumes only 0.16 percent of world energy production. According to BMC, this consumption is slightly less than the energy consumed by computer games. For this reason, it is characterized as an insignificant amount of global energy.

Comparing this energy use with that of other industries, the report concludes that BTC mining uses less energy than residential and non-residential buildings, construction, aerospace, appliances and gold mining in the US.
