Miami Mayor Francis Suarez and New York City Mayor Eric Adams said they see blockchain technology as a way to increase equality and diversity in their cities and disrupt authoritarian regimes.
Bitcoin-friendly mayors Suarez and Adams met at fintech company Inveniam’s Web 3 conference on Wednesday. Referring to China’s Bitcoin ban, Suarez said that banning uncontrollable technologies is a mistake.
Adams similarly pointed out that blockchain technology can help combat income inequality and serve as a tool for the city to give incentives to residents. He also added that he will “build a blockchain and crypto education platform” for young people and “give them cryptocurrency” to learn about technology.
As it is known, both presidents created sympathy in the community with their positive attitudes towards Bitcoin and their demands to receive their salaries in Bitcoin. On the other hand, Adams’ proof of work criticism caused a reaction in the community.
