Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban suffered a loss of nearly 900 thousand dollars as a result of an attack on one of his hot wallets.

Blockchain analyst Wazz was the one to notice the attack at 8pm on September 15, after highlighting suspicious behavior in one of Cuban’s wallets, with whom he had not interacted for approximately five months. It was reported that approximately $900,000 worth of crypto money was withdrawn from one of the hot wallets belonging to the billionaire investor.

Complicating matters further, $2 million worth of USDC was also withdrawn and sent to a different wallet, leading Wazz to suspect Cuban might be moving assets. But a few hours later, Cuban confirmed to DL News that he was on MetaMask for the first time in months. In addition, he suggested that the hacker or hacker community was waiting for time to attack.

Regarding the hack, community members stated that rather than the hackers monitoring Cuban’s activities, he must have done something to cause the security breach. While some have suggested that Cuban may have accidentally signed a malicious transaction, others have floated the idea that his private key was compromised given that the funds were transferred directly out of the wallet.
