The new rumors that have emerged show that Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 40 series graphics cards will be a power beast. The new post, which showed that previous power consumption leaks were “very low”, reported that the GeForce RTX 40 series will need a power cap of up to 800W .

Nvidia RTX 40 series may need 800W power consumption

In a statement from a reliable Twitter account called Kopite7kimi, the power limits of the GeForce RTX 40 series have been determined. Critical information about the AD102, AD103, AD104 and AD106 GPUs in the RTX 40 series has been announced.

First of all, it is necessary to understand the difference between the video card power limit and TDP . The power limit represents the maximum watt the GPU can run at and in the BIOS settings of the video card. Graphics cards with expensive cooling can operate at values close to the power limit. TDP, on the other hand, is the energy required by standard users, significantly lower than the power limit.

The AD102 GPU, which will be included in the RTX 4090 , is expected to come with a power limit of 800W . Earlier speculations suggested that the RTX 4090 would be launched with a TDP of 600W or less. But Kopite7kimi thinks that the core GPU will have a power limit of 800W.

However, it was stated that there will be more acceptable power limits in the AD103, AD104 and AD106 GPU cores. The AD103 GPU, which will feed the possible GeForce RTX 4080 , is expected to have a 450W limit. For comparison, the GeForce RTX 3090 and RTX 3080 have maximum power limits of 400W and 370W, respectively.

The maximum power limits of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 40 series will be as follows:

  • AD102 ( RTX 4090 ) – 800W
  • AD103 ( RTX 4080 ) – 450W
  • AD104 ( RTX 4070 ) – 400W
  • AD106 ( RTX 4060 ) – 260W

There have been a few leaks so far regarding the Nvidia RTX 40 series release date , and they all point to the first quarter of 2023. Recent reports have targeted the CES event, which will be held in January 2023, with a more precise date.
