Microsoft founder Bill Gates said in a Reddit “You Can Ask Me Anything” session that he is currently using a foldable phone. However, the device he used was not a Surface Duo 2 as everyone expected, but a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3.
Bill Gates says he chose the Galaxy Z Fold3 because it’s a device that can be a portable PC and a phone at the same time. But the Microsoft founder also says he “likes to try different phones.”
Gates has always been very open about which devices he prefers for personal use. When it became completely clear that Windows Phone was dead, Gates publicly announced that he was “using an Android phone with a lot of Microsoft software.”
However, it is considered normal for Gates to switch to Android after quitting Windows Phone, as he has previously stated that he does not like the iPhone very much. While Microsoft intends to somehow re-enter the phone space with the Surface Duo lineup, the former Microsoft CEO doesn’t seem convinced enough to opt for the Surface Duo 2 for day-to-day use.
The first generation Surface Duo received good response from both experts and users. The second-generation Duo, on the other hand, was not considered sufficient to fight its rivals such as the Galaxy Z Fold3 head-to-head. However, after the March 2022 update, the Surface Duo 2 now looks like a much better product than when it was released.
