The report by Ookla reveals that Starlink achieved an average median download speed of 62.5 Mbps and an upload speed of 7.2 Mbps in the second quarter of the year. In the first quarter of the year, these values were 90.6 Mbps and 9.3 Mbps, respectively. In addition, the latency values increased from 43 ms to 48 ms. Wired broadband internet in the US, on the other hand, offers an average of 150.1 Mbps download, 21.5 Mbps upload and 14 ms latency in the same report.

Although the data in the report is based on users in the USA, it is stated that the number of users that has increased since last year has decreased the speed of Starlink on a global scale, according to those announced by Ookla.

Based on user-based speed tests, Ookla reports were quoted last month when the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) rejected an application for an interim $885.51 million broadband funding granted to Starlink. The FCC said it doubted whether Starlink could deliver the 100 Mbps download and 20 Mbps upload speeds required for the grant it requested.
According to SpaceX’s data, Starlink is currently used by 500,000 users in 32 countries. In regions where the number of users is high, Starlink internet speed is considered to have decreased, but it is underlined that such a thing will not happen when the sufficient number of satellites is reached. On the other hand, the number of Starlink satellites has exceeded 3,000. Additionally, the FCC has granted Starlink permission for 12,000 satellites, and the door is kept open for thousands more.
