The new director of Israel’s National Cyber Administration (INCD) announced that the country intends to set up a “Cyber Dome” to defend itself against digital attacks.
INCD’s chief executive, Gaby Portnoy, made her first public speech since her appointment in February, announcing the Cyber-Dome plans. During a conference in Tel Aviv, Portnoy stated that Cyber Dome will begin to implement new mechanisms in the country’s cyberspaces, and that this will provide tools and services for the protection of national assets.
Portnoy said the Cyber Dome is necessary, emphasizing that INCD found 1,500 cyber attacks in the past year alone and countered these attacks. He also said that most of the cyberattacks came from Iran, Hezbollah and Hamas, which are their main cyber rivals.
The administrator, who did not explain when the Cyber Dome will start to be used, emphasized that this dome alone will not be enough, and stated that the government, different sectors, academia, the private sector and the whole world should fight together against cyber attacks.
