25 percent raise from TSMC
The report states that TSMC will significantly increase its 3nm plate prices due to its dominance in the chip manufacturing space and the lack of competition in the 3nm process process yet. TSMC’s 7nm plate prices rose from $10,000 to $16,000 when 5nm was passed. With the new 3nm process, chip prices are expected to rise by 25 percent to $20,000 or even more. This means that new generation graphics cards and processors will be even more expensive.
TSMC has consolidated its technological superiority in the semiconductor industry. This situation reinforces the commitment to TSMC. On the other hand, Samsung, one of the leading competitors of TSMC, states that the 3nm (GAP) process will be ready for mass production by 2024. Samsung’s current 3nm process is not efficient and performance enough for now. On the other hand, let’s mention that Intel also has breakthroughs in the semiconductor field and aims to attract Nvidia or AMD to their ranks.
