Today, our children no longer have phones or tablets in their hands, and parents need to keep it under constant control. Therefore, the need for different control applications arises. However, control practices are not innocent.
Parental control apps are threatening
According to the research by Cybernews, while Android parental control applications monitor personal data, they also invite cyber attackers due to weak security solutions.
In the report, Android applications that have been downloaded 85 million times in total are discussed. Among them, the Phone Tracker By Number application has been downloaded 50 million times, but the security solutions are very weak. Sharing user data with other applications poses a separate risk. It also collects information from parents.
On the other hand, improper implementation of the SSL certificate poses the risk of cyber-attackers monitoring all data traffic. All apps in the report are missing an SSL certificate.
Researchers recommend that parents research the control applications before installing them and turn to Google or Apple’s own solutions in the first place. Otherwise, it opens the door to great risks.
