According to the statement, players will start migrating their accounts to Steam as of April 2022. Then, in May 2022, Bethesda.net will shut down. You can find frequently asked questions and all other details about the subject below.

You have plenty of time to plan and start the process of importing your Bethesda.net library to Steam. Your library and wallet are included in the transfer process to Steam, so you won’t lose anything in your Bethesda.net account. While most games’ save files will be transferred automatically, a few will need to be transferred manually. You will continue to log in using your Bethesda.net account to play games that require manual transfer. Your Bethesda.net account will not be lost and you will be able to access your account from our website and the game. We will continue to support all Bethesda.net accounts in our future games.

You will be able to start the account transfer process by following the detailed instructions we will share with you at the beginning of April.

We know you have many questions and we invite you to read our detailed FAQ below. If you have questions about Fallout 76, you can find a Fallout 76-specific FAQ at Fallout.com, alongside the FAQ below.

Until May, you will be able to access and play your games on the Bethesda.net launcher. However, we recommend that you start the transfer process as soon as possible.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How do I continue playing my games?
A: We encourage our Bethesda.net launcher community to continue their gaming experience on Steam. You’ll be able to transfer your Bethesda.net library to Steam in early April. You will be able to access all the games you own on the Bethesda.net launcher for free on Steam. Your purchases will be transferred to your Steam account. While most games’ save files will be transferred automatically, a few will have to transfer files manually. To find out which games you’ll need to manually transfer files to, see “What will happen to my save files and progress in my games?” in our FAQ post. You can read the answer to the question.

Q: What will happen to the Bethesda.net launcher?
A: You will continue to have access to the Bethesda.net launcher and games in the launcher until May. From May onwards, you will no longer be able to access and play games from the Bethesda.net launcher.

Q: After transferring my account to Steam, will I need a Bethesda.net account even if I’m not using the launcher?
A: Yes. Many of our games and many services we offer still require a Bethesda.net account. This will give you access to Bethesda.net services such as game modes, in-game items such as skins, and exclusive news and updates.

Q: Will I be able to access the games I own on the Bethesda.net launcher from Steam?
A: Yes. There are some steps you need to take to transfer your Bethesda.net account information to your Steam account. We will notify everyone when the transfer to Steam is available, and we will add information about where and how to transfer in this FAQ. Please note that you can start this process any time after they become available, but from May onwards you will not be able to play purchased games from the Bethesda.net launcher. In May, you will only lose access to these games via the launcher, not your Bethesda.net library.

Q: What will happen to my save files and progress in my games?
A: If you choose to transfer your Bethesda.net library to your Steam account, we will share with you your game progress and information on how to transfer save files to Steam whenever possible so that you can continue with your games from where you left off. Some games’ save files will be transferred automatically, but some will require you to manually copy the save files to the Steam folder. We will share information on how to transfer recording files soon. With the exception of Wolfenstein: Youngblood, where save files cannot be transferred at the moment, we think that save files for almost all games will be transferred automatically or manually.

Game add-ons such as virtual currency balances, DLC and in-game skins will also be transferred automatically.

Q: Will my in-game virtual currency (Atom, etc.) be transferred to Steam?
A: Yes. Your Bethesda.net wallet will be transferred to Steam once it finishes the transfer process.

Q: Can I transfer my account to PlayStation or Xbox instead of Steam?
A: No. We can only support transferring Bethesda.net account information on PC platform. We are unable to transfer PC account information to consoles.

Q: Can I transfer my account to another service on PC instead of Steam?
A: No. We can only support importing account information from Bethesda.net launcher to Steam.

Q: Will closing the launcher affect my Bethesda.net account?
A: No. You will still need to log in with your Bethesda.net account to play our online games like Fallout 76 and access our other services. Our games will continue to use a Bethesda.net account in the future.

Q: What about Fallout 76?
A: Our comprehensive Fallout 76 FAQ is available here.

Q: Will all languages continue to be supported?
A: Yes.

Q: Will friend lists be merged? Will I need to add friends I’ve added on Bethesda.net again?
A: Games with a Bethesda.net friend list will also be merged. These games include Fallout 76, DOOM Eternal, Wolfenstein: Youngblood, The Elder Scrolls: Legends, Rage 2 and DEATHLOOP.

Q: Will closing the Bethesda.net launcher affect my ability to play The Elder Scrolls: Online on PC?
A: No. This change will not affect The Elder Scrolls: Online.
