Cigarettes, which are among the most addictive substances in the world, cause great harm to its users both financially and physically. This disease, which ranges from lung cancer to COPD at a young age, causes the death of hundreds of people every day.
On the other hand, coffee, which is more addictive than cigarettes, is generally seen by smokers as the closest friend of cigarettes. Especially smokers who wake up in the morning think that smoking with coffee is the best way to start the day. So, is this thought just a perception or does it have a scientific basis?
Drinking coffee with a cigarette in the morning alleviates your smoking crisis
This study, funded by the National Institutes of Health and organized by researchers at the University of Florida School of Medicine, investigated the close relationship between coffee and cigarettes. According to the results of the research, some components in these two addictive substances allow coffee and cigarettes to technically “feed each other”. The head of the research, Roger L. Papke, determined that two molecules, n-MP and choline, found in coffee directly affect two receptors that affect the nicotine crisis, especially in the brain.
These two molecules were found to reduce the nicotine crisis of coffee drunk in the morning, and therefore, cigarettes with coffee made it feel “more satisfying and happy”. Since individuals who sleep through the night cannot take nicotine, these receptors usually wake up in the morning, prompting the individual to alarm and to smoke. Thanks to the fact that the molecules in the coffee feed the receptors, users who smoke with coffee often find a cup of coffee in the morning as important as a cigarette, as they better meet their nicotine needs in the morning.
Of course, this research does not change that smoking and excessive coffee consumption have terrible harms.
