Acquired by Microsoft for a record-breaking price, Activision Blizzard managed to change the fronts in the gaming world. While Xbox Manager Phil Spencer says Call of Duty won’t be exclusive to Xbox, Sony disagrees. Now EA CEO Andrew Wilson has joined the discussion. Wilson thinks the acquisition will be an opportunity for Battlefield.
EA CEO: Call of Duty exclusive to Xbox benefits Battlefield
Electronic Arts CEO Andrew Wilson evaluated the sale of Call of Duty and chiefly Activision Blizzard to Microsoft. He stated that this deal is a “great opportunity” for Battlefield, which has recently lost its popularity and has been subject to great criticism from players.
Noting the uncertainty on which platforms Call of Duty will be on for now, EA CEO said that they offer cross-platform support with Battlefield. However, previously Xbox Manager Phil Spencer stated that new Call of Duty games will be released on the same day for both Xbox and PlayStation.
Speaking at the conference, CEO Andrew Wilson said, “We are in a world where there are questions about the future of Call of Duty and what platforms it may and may not be on. “I think it’s a tremendous opportunity for Battlefield to be fully cross-platform.”
Still, it should be noted that Call of Duty offers significant opportunities for PlayStation players. For example, in the Call of Duty Modern Warfare II open beta, a character named Hiro “Oni” Watanabe offers exclusive bonuses to PlayStation owners.
It should be noted that Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard has not yet been confirmed. The regulators of many countries, such as the USA and the UK, are debating whether this agreement will lead to an infringement of competition. Sony CEO Jim Ryan made similar complaints.
