The electric Hyundai Ioniq 5, which was introduced about a year ago, is getting a minor update for the European market. Small touches have been made in the battery, suspension and option list.

In the upper versions of the Hyundai Ioniq 5, a 72.6 kWh battery pack is used. The Korean manufacturer has decided to replace it with a new 77.4 kWh battery. The current battery provides a range of up to 483 kilometers according to WLTP. The new battery will increase this value a little more and push the 500 kilometer limit. On the other hand, there is no change in the smaller option 58 kWh battery.

Another important improvement has been made on the cooling side of the batteries. The new battery cooling system automatically adjusts the temperature of the battery during movement, ensuring that it is at the temperature required for optimum charging when the charging point is reached. The system is activated automatically when the driver marks a charging point as a destination on the navigation system.

Hyundai Ioniq 5 will also have a digital mirror option from 2023. The digital rear-view mirror will transfer the image from the camera on the rear spoiler to the driver. Thus, a cleaner and unobstructed view will be provided for the driver. Another option to be added is the added cameras instead of the traditional side mirrors. We are already familiar with this option from some models in the electric vehicle market.

The last change is the shock absorbers called Smart Frequency Dampers (SDF). Hyundai did not provide information about how this new system will work, but stated that it will improve the response of the rear axle, which will positively affect areas such as driving comfort, body control and handling.

The Korean manufacturer is satisfied with the sales of the Ioniq 5 and its effect on its brand image. The electric model, which has not neglected to receive various awards since its launch, is among the finalists selected for the World Car of the Year Award.
