Speaking at an event at MIT, Altman was asked about the open letter that has circulated among the tech world recently demanding that labs like OpenAI pause the development of artificial intelligence systems “more powerful than GPT-4.” As it will be remembered, leading names of the industry such as Elon Musk and Steve Wozniak signed this letter. Experts disagree on the nature of the threat posed by AI (existential or more mundane?) and the industry implications.
There is no GPT-5 and it won’t be for a while
However, just because OpenAI doesn’t work on GPT-5 doesn’t mean it doesn’t advance the capabilities of GPT-4. GPT-4 is currently available to ChatGPT Plus users, and the current ChatGPT has the previous version of GPT-3.5. The GPT-3.5 has improved a lot since its first release, and although the GPT-5 is not being developed, the GPT-4 model will be further developed with each passing week. Therefore, it is necessary not to get hung up on the number of models in artificial intelligence. On the other hand, the USA and Europe are working to put artificial intelligence developments on a legal basis, and artificial intelligence regulations may enter our lives in the near future. In this way, security issues of concern can be filed.
