According to the views of a former Rockstar developer, the highly anticipated release of Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6) on PC may take a long time. Mike York, a former Rockstar animator, recently shared his perspective on the matter, suggesting that PC gamers may face a significant wait before experiencing the next installment of the iconic series.
GTA 6 may come to PC much later than expected
York’s comment gained attention after he claimed that the first GTA 6 trailer contained in-game footage, and suggested that the visuals displayed would indeed represent the final product to be released in 2025. In his latest statement, York touched on the PC release timeline and stated that he believes it will take “a long time” for GTA 6 to come to the PC platform.
According to York, Rockstar will focus on maximizing the capabilities of current-gen consoles like the PS5 by “pushing the boundaries” of what it can achieve with the game before turning its attention to the PC version. He highlighted the exceptional quality of the background characters in the GTA 6 trailer, emphasizing that even the average non-playable characters (NPCs) in the game’s environment surpass the standard NPC appearances found in other games.
While GTA 6’s PC release hasn’t been officially confirmed by Rockstar, York’s comments suggest it won’t be happening anytime soon. The fact that there was no mention of a PC release in the first trailer of the game, which informed that it would be released for PS5 and Xbox Series X in 2025, caused concern among PC game enthusiasts.
But York’s comments may offer a glimmer of hope, hinting that the delay could be a result of Rockstar’s commitment to delivering a groundbreaking experience on consoles before adapting the game for PC.
GTA 6’s potential delay on PC also matches Rockstar’s past actions. Previous games in the series, such as GTA 4 and GTA 5, came to PC several years after their initial console releases. Even Rockstar’s latest blockbuster, Red Dead Redemption 2, followed a similar path, arriving on PC more than a year after its launch on consoles.
While fans wait for more details about GTA 6, it looks like they may have to prepare themselves for a long wait, especially on the PC front. What are you thinking? Please don’t forget to share your thoughts with us in the comments.
