Re-branded at last year’s Facebook Connect 2021 event, Facebook, together with all the services it is connected to, came under the roof of the newly established Meta. Although the company has been on the agenda with the Metaverse universe more recently, it has been working on a smartwatch that rivals the Apple Watch for at least two years. However, according to the latest information, Meta made an unexpected decision regarding the product.

Meta cancels Apple Watch rival smartwatch

According to Bloomberg’s report, Meta has decided to cancel the smartwatch that has been in development for more than two years. While there was no explanation from the company on the subject, the images of the product appeared shortly after its cancellation.

The device has two cameras, front and back. The resolution of the sensors is 5 and 12 Megapixels, respectively. At the same time, its screen has an appearance similar to the drop notch design often used in smartphones.

Apart from this, Bloomberg’s report states that many applications such as Spotify, WhatsApp, Instagram Stories, daily activity tracking, workouts, photo gallery, heart rate monitoring, calendar, settings and breathing were detected in the prototype of the product. It is also underlined that it has eSIM, GPS and Wi-Fi support. It should also be noted that it offers up to 18 hours of battery life.

The smart watch, codenamed Milan, was initially set to be released in 2023. On the other hand, it was expected to go on sale with a price tag of $ 349. Finally, the report states that Meta is also working on different wearable products such as wrist-worn smart watches. However, no details about the devices are available yet.
