The European Union, which wants to reduce electronic waste and improve user experience, has wanted to standardize charging inputs for many years. With the development and spread of USB-C technology, USB-C has become the best choice. The new law that will make USB-C mandatory, passed by the European Parliament last month, could come into effect very soon. European Deputies will meet on June 7 and will make a final decision on USB-C.
Phone, tablets and headphones will come with USB-C
If the new law of the European Union is accepted, all smartphones, tablets and headphones sold in member countries will have to come with a USB-C port. Devices that only support wireless charging, such as the Apple Watch and Galaxy Watch, are excluded from the rule. Details regarding the enactment of the USB-C law are not yet known but will be announced on June 7. However, companies will most likely be given some time to facilitate the transition and the rules will be softened.
European Parliament approved uniform charge input proposal
Apple, It had previously opposed the USB-C mandate and warned the European Union that the USB-C law would be against innovation. However, recently, there has been information that Apple will switch to USB-C technology with the iPhone 15 series. Accordingly, the iPhone 14 series will likely be the last iPhone to offer Lightning input.
