As you know, the Avatar brand is one of the most popular brands in the world with its movies. Avatar Frontiers of Pandora, developed by Ubisfot, was not a much talked about production even though it was released the other day. In fact, it was not a much talked about game as the release date approached. There are actually a few reasons for this, but we can say that the first thing is that people think the game will be very similar to Far Cry. Frankly, it wasn’t a very exciting game for me either, for this very reason. However, I can say that my lack of expectations changed my enjoyment of the game.

First of all, let’s start with the atmosphere of the game, which is my favorite point. Even though I don’t like the Avatar universe very much in terms of lore, I have to say that it really has a beautiful universe in terms of visuals. Ubisoft has done a really good job turning this universe into a game. They have presented the planet Pandora to us in an incredible way, with graphics that we can call successful. There were many points in the game where I spent time just stopping and looking at the view. While even looking straight at the forest in such games gives incredible pleasure, the beautiful reflection of a universe full of such colorful and different creatures really breaks the bad expectations created by the game.

I have to say that in addition to the visually beautiful reflection of the universe, it also makes you feel the feeling of being from the Na’vi race. The main reason for this is, of course, the atmosphere. The reasons that nourish the atmosphere are that the creatures, events, characters and activities to be done are designed beautifully accordingly. In short, if you are looking for a beautiful Na’vi experience or a magnificent visual or a magnificent Pandora, the game you are looking for is Avatar Frontiers of Pandora.

Yes, the atmosphere part is very nice, but this is not the main purpose of the games, it is the fun that comes with the gameplay part. As many of us guessed, the game is basically very similar to Far Cry. That’s why you’ll find the gameplay features you found in Far Cry in this game, too. I can say that the mechanics of hunting, raiding enemy territory, collecting plants and role-playing are almost exactly the same as Far Cry. However, the weapon variety unfortunately lags behind Far Cry. There is a variety of weapons in your game that comes with being a Na’vi, but not that much. Then there are the normal firearms that people use. This part was actually done well in Far Cry, providing variety, but unfortunately they could not achieve this in this game. In addition to the variety, the weapons found are also not very enjoyable. Especially the design of firearms is very simple. Yes, it is designed based on the weapons in the universe, but it is very simple and cannot give the player the feeling of using a weapon. That’s why the combat part, which you frequently enter, starts to get boring after a while. To sum up the gameplay, I can say that unfortunately we are presented with a game that falls far below expectations and does not even come close to the mechanics we have seen in Far Cry for years.

Another point that the game succeeds in is traveling in a beautifully created universe. You can also travel by force, but I think there is a small problem here. Unfortunately, they did not add a parkour mechanic to the open world traveling part, as in the Assassin’s Creed series. I can say that a great opportunity was missed, especially with the trees, because the map, universe and character are really suitable for this. Apart from this, as you progress in the game, you get a mount and an animal to fly. Once you get these, navigating the game becomes much more enjoyable. I can say that especially the flying part was quite nice.

As for the story, frankly, if you ask me what the story of the Avatar movies is, I cannot answer right now, even though I have just watched it. Because they don’t have a very different story that can be followed. The technology and visuality of the films come before anything else. This also applies to this game. The story is not that easy to follow. It would be beneficial to play knowing this. As for performance and graphics, I already said that the graphics are nice. It definitely deserves praise. However, there are some problems in the performance part. Especially momentary FPS drops can be unpleasant from time to time. But I played the pre-release version of the game. Therefore, these bugs may not be present in the release version. It is worth noting this.

In general, Avatar is a production that is definitely above my expectations, but does not offer anything more than an average game, except for its atmosphere. However, with its atmosphere, it appears as a beautiful and experienceable production, especially for those who love the Avatar universe. It’s a game I can recommend if you’re not bored of Far Cry games, just because of its atmosphere. But as I said, the main point is the atmosphere. If you are someone who does not care much about the atmosphere, there is no content for you.
