Toyota is working on affordable autonomous driving technology!

Toyota has come up with many different autonomous driving technologies to date. Although these autonomous driving are not good at first, the technologies that have emerged recently manage to impress everyone. A report shared by Automotive News surprised everyone. The newly emerged report shows that this technology will become even more accessible.

According to the published report, Woven Plant, a division of the famous automobile manufacturer Toyota, is working on affordable autonomous driving technology. This company, with its research, wants to implement autonomous driving technology with only affordable cameras without using any expensive sensor technology, including Lidar sensors.

Michael Benisch, the company’s vice president of engineering, made some statements on this issue. In his statement, Benisch said:

“We need a lot of data. It is not enough to have the small amount of data that can be gleaned from a small fleet of expensive autonomous vehicles. Rather, we’re trying to show that with a more affordable fleet, we can unlock the advantage that Toyota and any major automaker would have.”

Toyota is currently in an effort to form a joint fleet with Tesla. Thanks to this fleet, the company thinks it can collect a lot of data. If sensors such as Lidar are used in these tests, it is predicted that the cost will be very expensive and the scalability will be low.

So, what are your thoughts? Do you think the spread of affordable autonomous driving technology will cause some problems in traffic? Do not forget to share your views with us in the comments section or on the SDN Forum.
