X (Twitter), under the management of Elon Musk, continues to come up with new features. The giant microblogging platform recently introduced the “hide likes” feature that Premium subscribers can use.
The company has now brought another innovation to the platform. Spotted by TechCrunch, the feature allows users to get a blue tick on X with their real-life ID. We should point out that this authentication method will be exclusive to paid subscribers only.
Authentication will try to prevent fake and impersonator accounts
According to information received, the platform has partnered with Israel-based Au10tix for the authentication method. The new feature will allow users to become approved accounts using their physical IDs. In this way, fake and imitation accounts will be prevented. However, as we said before, this feature will only be available to Premium subscribers.
In the screenshot shared by TechCrunch, it appears that users will be required to take both a selfie and a photo of their ID. It will also be necessary to allow the use of biometric data. X says Au10tix can retain data for up to 30 days.
The authentication feature is not released for all countries. X’s support page says it is not available in the European Union (EU) and European Economic Area (EEA) countries and the United Kingdom, although it says it is available in most countries. This is probably due to strict data protection laws here. However, let us add that the company wants to bring the feature to these regions soon.
Finally, this information will be added to the accounts of people who have become approved by authenticating. So, when you click on the blue tick, you will see that that person has received a blue tick by authenticating.
