Austria once again hosted the ninth race of the season in the Formula 1 World Championship. Red Bull driver Max Verstappen was the winner on the track where the eighth race was also held.
Dutch driver Verstappen has won his fifth overall victory this season. Mercedes’ Valtteri Bottas and McLaren’s Lando Norris took the podium in second and third place, respectively, while Lewis Hamilton finished fourth.
Verstappen and Hamilton’s difference of 32 points
At the Austrian GP, the ninth race of the 2021 Formula 1 season, the expected rain did not come and the race took place on a completely dry track. The front row of 7 was retained throughout the first lap. Max Verstappen was at the forefront at this time. Alpine driver Esteban Ocon said goodbye to the race from the first lap due to the broken right front suspension of his car.
In the continuation of the race, Perez entered the gravel pool and dropped to tenth place. The names that continued the race in the front section were Verstappen, Norris, Hamilton and Bottas with this event. On lap 20, Norris was given a 5-second time penalty for pushing Perez off the track. No matter how hard he chased Norris, Hamilton, who could not pass, rose to second place with this event.
In the rest of the race, the difference between Verstappen and Hamilton was 20 seconds. Losing speed due to the damage under his car, Hamilton lagged behind Bottas and Norris after a while. Verstappen, who increased the gap to 28 seconds, was pitted while entering the last 10 laps and tire problems were corrected. The Dutch pilot, who returned to the race after a smooth pit stop and continued to widen the gap, finished the race with 26 points as the first name to reach the checkered flag. The point difference between Verstappen and Hamilton thus increased to 32.
