Australian market giant On The Run (OTR) has become the largest physical store in Australia to start accepting cryptocurrencies.
According to a report by The Australian, a major grocery chain On The Run (OTR) will soon offer support for payments with Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies at all its branches in South Australia. Customers will soon be able to pay for fuel at 170 service stations across the state, which includes both rural and metropolitan locations. OTR has also opened several locations in Victoria, though it is unclear whether crypto payments will be available there.
Other brands operating alongside OTR outlets such as Subway and Oporto will also be able to enable the new payment method, allowing customers to purchase food and drink with a range of cryptocurrencies. The move is expected to further accelerate the adoption of cryptocurrency in Australia.
According to a recent survey published by Finder, around 18% of Australians own cryptocurrency. The country has the third highest adoption rate in the world. As previously reported, the Australian government is currently working on a robust cryptocurrency regulatory framework as part of an effort to overhaul the country’s payments system.
