Volkswagen and Microsoft are already presenting a future where traffic information, weather conditions, shopping recommendations and architectural highlights will be transmitted holographically to drivers with augmented reality glasses.
Volkswagen sees augmented reality as one of the key components of the mobility of the future. The German company started to work with Microsoft in line with this thought. Two large companies focus on the use of HoloLens 2 glasses in the vehicle.
Roads are safer with augmented reality!
Volkswagen first used HoloLens technology in its Race Trainer Golf R autonomous vehicle in 2015. However, when the augmented reality glasses did not work as expected, the German company decided to cooperate with Microsoft. The two companies, which have been working together since 2018, seem to have come a long way in this regard.
HoloLens could not keep up with the speed of a car, as it was designed to track people’s movements through sensors in the first place. In order to solve this situation, the researchers who developed the Mobile Platform mode also managed to establish a healthier connection between the car and HoloLens.
All these improvements make it possible for HoloLens to transmit all the information it needs to the driver. We do not yet know what brands will do with this technology, but the images shared are quite remarkable. The driver can access pedestrian and road information as well as navigation information with augmented reality glasses.
The company also unveiled its “mixed reality” system, which allows users to control air conditioning elements without touching physical buttons. By developing this system, it can transfer much more information to users in the future.
There seems to be no limit to what can be done with augmented reality. So what do you think about the use of HoloLens 2 technology in vehicles? You can share your views with us in the comments section or on the SDN Forum.
