Determining high performance in the compact class with the third generation of the RS 3 Sportback and the second generation of the RS 3 Sedan, Audi takes it to a higher level with the RS 3 Performance Edition. The new model, which will be produced only 300 units, draws attention both technically and visually.
More powerful and faster than all previous RS 3 series, the RS 3 Performance Edition is the first vehicle in its class to reach a top speed of 300 km/h with the RS Dynamics Package plus. The award-winning five-cylinder turbo engine, known for its characteristic sound, provides this special model with 407 PS and 500 Nm of torque.
Audi RS3 Performance Edition features
Power is transmitted by a 7-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission. The RS 3 Performance Edition can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds. The standard RS sports exhaust with modified gloss black, oval tailpipes gives the exterior a sporty and robust sound, provided by the variable exhaust flap control.
In Audi drive select’s Dynamic, RS Performance and RS Torque Rear modes, the exhaust flaps open even more when the vehicle is stationary, so the sound is impressive in any situation.
The high driving dynamics and stability provided by RS 3 model-specific standards such as negative camber and stiffer wishbone are further enhanced by the RS sport suspension with adaptive damping control.
The system continuously and individually adjusts each shock absorber according to road conditions, driving situation and the mode selected in Audi drive select.
Compared to the previous generation RS 3, pressure and rebound damping have been increased, allowing the shock absorber to absorb more of the force passing through the chassis. Introduced in the RS 3 Performance Edition, the RS Torque Splitter increases stability and agility, reducing understeer during dynamic driving.
A maximum of 50 percent of the driving power is directed to the rear axle; In RS Torque Rear mode, all of the reverse driving torque is transmitted intermittently to the wheel outside the corner.
The special model demonstrates its leading position in the RS 3 portfolio with a wide range of new design elements and equipment: motorsport-design wheels and RS sports exhaust pipes, as well as Audi rings, the 3 RS logos front and rear in black and matched with special trims.
When the RS 3 Performance Edition is switched on, the digital daytime running light, consisting of 15 LED segments, displays a “checkered flag” on the passenger side to signify limited production and a “3-0-0” on the driver’s side, representing maximum speed.
When turned off, the text “RS-3” appears instead of “3-0-0” in the pixel area under the main headlight. While driving, the checkered flag lights up on both sides as a daytime running light. Another distinguishing feature is the entrance LED in the front doors: it projects “#RS Performance” onto the floor next to the car.
The special model also shows its privilege in the interior. For the first time in the RS 3, the seats offered as standard equipment provide lateral support during dynamic cornering. The seats have contrasting blue honeycomb stitching.
On the special model, the background image on the 10.1 inch touchscreen is carbon look and shows the characteristic 2.5 TFSI 1-2-4-5-3 firing sequence. The RS monitor also includes images of coolant temperature, engine and transmission oil, g-forces and tire pressures.
At the same time, Audi virtual cockpit plus has performance-related data such as lap times, g-forces and 0-100 km/h, 0-200 km/h acceleration.
