Artificial intelligence revolution in the world of cinema: CGI effects will be made with drag and drop

The gap between the big-budget box office giants and the low-budget movie will be narrowed further with a newly released video editing tool. The VFX workload in a movie is both very tedious and a serious cost item. However, VFX artists will now be able to add CGI effects to the scene they want in high quality and very easily with the Wonder Studio tool.

CGI characters will be added with a few clicks

Introduced by Wonder Dynamics co-founders Nikola Todorovic and Ready Player One star Tye Sheridan, Wonder Studio brings incredible talent to an amateur filmmaker. This artificial intelligence-based tool makes it possible to replace the human character in the scene with a CGI animated character with just drag and drop. Wonder Dynamics states that they have been developing the tool they created for three years and they aim to save time by automating the process. It is underlined that a specially developed visual artificial intelligence is used for this, and it is said that players no longer need to do MoCap (motion capture).

It will speed up the process considerably.

There are currently two ways to get CGI effects or characters into a movie; Pay players additionally to MoCap or pay VFX artists for time-consuming manual edits. This is not a big deal for big-budget movies called “blockbuster”, but it’s a big problem for low-budget movies. Because there is not that much budget and there is not that much time. With Wonder Studio, the player does not need to MoCap or the VFX artist does not need to make time-consuming manual edits (light, shadows, animation, etc.).

The platform is still in beta, but it’s already being used by the famous action directors Russo Brothers for a new Netflix movie starring Millie Bobby Brown and Chris Pratt. Tye Sheridan, in his statement, says that besides the free version of his tools, there will also be a paid version with much more advanced features. Additionally, it is desirable to work directly with VFX houses to create various workflows and improve the process. VFX houses are flooded with computer effects in the cinema, and a tool like this that makes a significant part of the process so much easier can make it easier for VFX artists.
