Google CEO Sundar Pichai said that they will add conversational artificial intelligence features to Google’s search engine.
In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Pichai stated that advances in artificial intelligence will strengthen Google’s search engine. Pichai said the field of opportunity now widens even further as OpenAI and Microsoft join the race to take over the artificial intelligence market.
Work Continues Despite Cost Cuts
Rejecting the perception that artificial intelligence chatbots could become a threat to Google, Pichai underlined that they are making efforts to add AI features to the search engine.
Trying to combat the artificial intelligence threat to Google’s core business, Pichai is also facing investor pressure to cut costs. Alphabet, Google’s parent company, announced in January that it would cut 12,000 jobs. In this process, concerns about inflation and recession in the economy encouraged other technology companies to cut.
Pichai made a statement on the subject: “We are strictly focused on creating lasting savings. We are pleased with the progress, but we still have a lot of work to do.”
Continuing its artificial intelligence studies despite cost cuts, Google accelerated its work on new products after the outstanding success of ChatGPT.
Google announced in the past months that it will integrate LLMs (major language models) into its search engine, but this is the first time it has shared its plans for speech features.
