NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said on Tuesday that they are working on rules for the responsible use of artificial intelligence and other disruptive technologies in the military, and they want to reach an agreement with China on this issue.
“We cannot simply count and limit the number of AI algorithms and tools a given country has, as with missiles and warheads,” Stoltenberg said at the NATO disarmament conference.
Universal standards will be determined
The NATO leader emphasized that they are determined to develop common universal standards for the responsible use of these new technologies in the military. He stated that they will determine a strategy on artificial intelligence technologies and the principles of their use.
Stoltenberg, as an example of such studies, reminded the United Kingdom’s work with the United Nations on the prohibition of the use of anti-satellite missiles and directed energy weapons in outer space.
