In the raid on crypto miners, more than a hundred mobile phones and equipment such as SIM cards, cash, vehicles, firearms, computers, memory cards, flash drives and printers were confiscated.

The mining farm is allegedly operated from a cottage in the municipality of Quilmes, southeast of the city of Buenos Aires. He was running his mining farm with stolen cables. Authorities also heard above the possibility of using illegal electricity.

AFIP has stepped up its investigations into digital asset operations since Carlos Castagneto took office.

The regulator announced that it is monitoring three crypto mining sites that do not properly declare their activities.

While the Argentine government’s continued crackdown on crypto mining appears to be aimed at unregistered operations, recent raids have raised questions about whether crypto mining is legal. ONG Bitcoin Argentina, a non-profit organization, stated that crypto mining operations are not a crime if local laws are adhered to:

“Cryptocurrency mining is not a crime defined in the criminal code and therefore is not in itself an activity that could be considered clandestine or illegal.”
