The Argentine Senate approves a $45 billion debt deal with the IMF, which includes a provision to deter the use of crypto assets.
As we have mentioned before, the country was trying to conclude a 46 billion dollar debt agreement with the IMF. As a result, the Senate voted and ratified the treaty. The said $45 billion debt is planned to be used to restructure the $57 billion debt in 2018.
The country’s letter of intent states, “We are taking important steps to deter the use of crypto assets to prevent money laundering, informality and brokerage to further protect financial stability.” It was also noted that it is planned to continue the payment digitization process “to improve the efficiency and costs of payment systems and cash management”.
Argentina is one of the countries with the highest adoption of cryptoassets.
