READING NOW Apple’s ‘Touch ID’ Feature May Never Come Back

Apple is experimenting with different technologies in different iPhone models. Sometimes new technologies are completely unique, and sometimes they can replace an existing feature. In 2017, while the Face ID feature came with the iPhoneX, we said goodbye to the Touch ID feature.

Although there were many rumors that Apple was testing for Touch ID, which many users wanted to return, we could not see any development regarding the return of the feature. It looks like this feature won’t be returning to iPhones anytime soon.

Touch ID removed forever?

According to Bloomberg’s report, Apple has made some tests to use the Touch ID feature on the back of iPhones, but this feature is unlikely to return any time soon. Allegedly, Apple has also considered putting Touch ID on the power button, as in the iPad Air and iPad mini models.

Still, it seems highly unlikely that Apple will re-launch the Tocuh ID feature in the foreseeable future, despite its testing. Although it was claimed that this feature could find its place in high-end models in the past years, we could not see the feature.

On the other hand, it is stated that although not on high-end devices, it can use Touch ID on older devices. For example, models such as the iPhone SE may have a mixed system of Face ID and Touch ID, as in iPads, but there is no improvement in this regard.

Editor’s comment: Although Touch ID has already given way to Face ID and Face ID is quite advanced compared to its early days, there are alternative situations where Touch ID can be useful. It will be useful to have two-factor authentication for accessing very sensitive information or to choose the appropriate one from two alternatives in case of emergency.
