If you’re considering buying a foldable phone, one of your biggest concerns will likely be its durability. Considering that these flexible mobile phones will be folded many times over, it is considered that they cannot withstand much folding.
There have been great developments in foldables since the Samsung Galaxy Fold, which was one of the first models offered. However, it can be clearly seen that Apple is also looking into this issue, and a new patent spotted by PatentlyApple shows a foldable mobile phone with some hints of durability.
This patent shows a foldable phone. It’s unclear whether it belongs to the iPhone Flip or another device, as different images show different formats. However, it seems to have an extra layer that fills the micro-cracks caused by bending on the screen.
These small cracks are one of the biggest problems of foldable phones, as they can turn into larger-scale screen cracks. Addressing this issue early also reduces this risk. At least in theory, this technology could also be used for screens on non-folding phones as it reduces the risk of breakage over time.
