According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is preparing to launch a new 24-inch iMac as early as the second half of the year. Evaluating the issue in the latest Power On bulletin, Gurman reported that the development of 2 new iMac models has reached a “late stage” and Apple has recently started production tests. Gurman predicts that mass production of the 2023 iMac won’t start for at least another 3 months, but claims that its launch won’t be too late after these 3 months.
Another good news is that the refreshed models will include a number of improvements.
Most notably, the 2023 iMac will be developed on Apple’s next-generation M3 chip. Gurman states that the new chipset, which is expected to take advantage of TSMC’s upcoming 3nm process, is likely to offer significant performance and power efficiency gains. Other changes could involve internal components of the iMac, some of which are reportedly redesigned by Apple. Gurman also says the company plans to use a “different” manufacturing process to attach the iMac’s stand. However, the all-in-one will still feature a 24-inch display and come in the same cheery colors as its 2021 predecessor.
Alongside the new iMac, Gurman says the company is preparing to launch the long-talked 15-inch version of the MacBook Air, a refresh of the 13-inch model, and the first Apple Silicon Mac Pro. It expects these Macs to hit the market between late spring and this summer. Whether the new MacBook Airs will be made with M3 chips is less clear. According to Gurman’s estimation, “at least” the 13-inch model could feature Apple’s latest chip, as the company is already offering the M2 version of the ultraportable.
