For many years, the Apple product that has undergone the least changes in terms of design has been the iMac. Although the 24-inch 4.5K Retina display and M1 chip are quite successful, it is not possible to say that Apple has made radical design decisions. But the new patent reveals that the iMac could consist of “curved glass with an embedded display.”
Apple working on glass-bodied iMac design
A new Apple patent spotted by Apple Insider shows how a device like the iMac can become futuristic. The technology giant prefers to say “Glass Body Electronic Device Member” instead of iMac in its patent description.
When we look at the patent image, we see that Apple is working on a one-piece glass body. The technology giant, which places the screen inside this glass body, thinks that there may be an iSight camera (FaceTime camera) just above the screen.
The patent also revealed the “corrugated section that supports the glass” so that the single piece of glass can be adjusted according to the user’s wishes. Networking and peripheral cables can also be squeezed into this section, and can also contain ports for power.
Apple also plans to reduce the weight on the glass in this way. Placing the cables and ports in this section makes the design more configurable.
In addition to the screen design, just below the glass body is a place where the keyboard and maybe the Magic Trackpad can be placed. However, since this design is included in a single image, the details are not known exactly.
Although the “Glass Body Electronic Device Member” patent, which seems to have been taken for the iMac, is quite elegant, it is still at a primitive stage in terms of design. We also know that Apple holds many different patents and mostly doesn’t use them.
